You Will Die Here Tonight Announced

by Dylan Nill

Spiral Bound Interactive, a brand new indie studio, has announced its first game. You Will Die Here Tonight is planned to come out on Steam later this fall.

You Will Die Here Tonight does not shy away from the clear retro survival-horror inspirations. You control six members of the ARIES Division through an open-ended mansion full of horrors and monsters that will relentlessly try to stop you from solving the mysteries of the abandoned mansion. Run from enemies, solve puzzles, and try to manage your scarce supplies of ammo while you survive. Sound familiar?

The Creative Director of Spiral Bound Interactive, Jonathan Williams, talks about his past with Resident Evil that inspired You Will Die Here Tonight.

“The story I always tell about the inspiration to make this game was renting the first Resident Evil as a kid but not owning a memory card for my PlayStation. I had no way of saving my progress, so I had to try and beat the game in a single sitting. I will never forget how intense that was. I remember getting run over by boulders in the caverns section of the game or having my head sliced off by a hunter leaping in from off-screen. I have never felt this amount of tension in a survival horror game since, so I wanted to recreate my experiences and share that with others through our game.”

Spiral Bound Interactive is also trying to bring some new ideas to the classic genre. You can try your best but, ultimately, you can’t always run from a fight. When you have no choice but to confront your enemies, the game switches perspectives to an arcade first person shooter. If you manage to survive, the game will switch back to a top down perspective to continue your journey, but you will not always make it through these encounters. You Will Die Here Tonight laces death into its narrative. When you die as one of the members of the ARIES Division, you’ll continue the journey from one of the other six surviving members and build on the progress from your fallen comrades while living with past actions and decisions you’ve made with previous characters.
